Locals said one body had been recovered while several others remain missing.

An eyewitness, Mustapha Badamasi, popularly known as Dan Bakano of Tudun Jukun, identified the recovered corpse as Yusuf Surajo, also known as Abba. The missing include Fatima Sani Danmarke, her three-year-old child, and a motorcyclist.

Badamasi explained that the incident occurred along the main Gaskiya Road near a church when floodwaters submerged a large roadside drainage.

According to him, the motorcyclist had been carrying the woman and her child when the bike struck the edge of the drainage. Fatima reportedly slipped while attempting to cross on foot, plunging into the raging waters with her child. The motorcyclist was also swept away.

“A good Samaritan who tried to rescue them also got carried away by the current,” Badamasi added.

Imam Mallam Musa Umar Al-Mishawi, who led the funeral prayer for Surajo at Kwarin Dangoma, confirmed that the deceased sustained a head injury. He was buried in line with Islamic rites.
