U-23 Eagles coaching job attracts Samson Siasia and Daniel Amokachi as former Nigeria internationals compete for vacant role

Former Nigeria internationals Samson Siasia and Daniel Amokachi are among several coaches who have applied for the vacant U-23 Eagles head coach position, according to reports on Monday, April 27, 2026.

The role became available following the exit of former assistant coach Salisu Yusuf, leaving the national Olympic football team without a substantive handler.

Samson Siasia, a former Super Eagles striker, is no stranger to the position, having managed the U-23 team in two separate spells.

His most notable achievement came at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he guided Nigeria to a silver medal finish.

He later led the team to a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, further cementing his reputation in youth football development.

Daniel Amokachi, another former Nigeria international, has also previously handled the U-23 Eagles setup.

The former forward, aged 53, now joins the growing list of experienced contenders for the role.

The coaching race is expected to attract strong interest given Nigeria’s long-standing ambition to return to the top of Olympic football competition.
