Cristiano Ronaldo stayed on the bench as Portugal beat Norway 2-1 in the Nations League, with Ramos punishing a Nyland error

Portugal beat Norway 2-1 in the Nations League on Sunday while Cristiano Ronaldo stayed an unused substitute.

BBC Sport reported that João Félix put Portugal ahead with his second goal in as many games. Erling Haaland equalised early in the second half.

The strike was Haaland’s 65th goal for Norway and his 22nd in the Nations League, extending his record as the competition’s top scorer.

Portugal went back in front after Norway goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland played the ball straight to Gonçalo Ramos, who chipped him to make it 2-1.

Ramos later went close again and shot wide. Rafael Leão had a deflected effort hit the bar. Ramos appeared to score a third, but VAR ruled it out for offside after another Nyland error.

Ronaldo, 41, watched the whole match from the bench as he continues his chase of 1,000 career goals. He remains 21 short of that mark.

Portugal were also without captain Bruno Fernandes, who missed the game through injury.

The result left Portugal with two wins from two in this season’s Nations League. Norway were left to regret the mistakes in goal.
