NAFDAC operatives arrest a fake chemical producer and seal illegal water and rice factories in Abuja during enforcement operations

NAFDAC operatives have arrested an unlicensed chemical producer and sealed off illegal water and rice factories during a series of enforcement operations in Abuja.

The agency confirmed that Mr. Ikechukwu Elijah was apprehended in the Apo-Waru area for producing and distributing counterfeit and unregistered chemicals.

He was arrested alongside his younger brother after officials uncovered counterfeit insecticides, sealing machines, and other dangerous equipment inside a residential building.

In the same operation, NAFDAC operatives sealed MZEE Table Water in the Damangaza district for running with a fake and expired license.

The packaged water factory lacked essential requirements such as a certified borehole and a water treatment system, raising serious health concerns.

Additionally, the enforcement team shut down a counterfeit rice operation at a shopping plaza opposite the World Trade Centre. The factory had re-bagged popular brands, packaging materials, and sealing machines valued at over ₦60 million.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to protect Nigerians from unsafe products. She urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid unregulated consumables, and promptly report suspicious activities.
