The contest produced a subdued first half with few clear opportunities, as United struggled to break down Villa’s physically imposing defence. Both sides created limited chances in a cautious opening period that ended without a goal.

The match burst into life after the interval when Casemiro headed United in front from a corner delivered by Bruno Fernandes, the midfielder guiding the ball beyond goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez to give the hosts the advantage.

Villa responded strongly and drew level through Ross Barkley, who fired a powerful strike into the net to revive the visitors’ hopes.

However, United quickly regained control in a decisive and clinical spell. Matheus Cunha restored the lead after racing onto a precise through-ball from Fernandes and finishing calmly.

The result was effectively sealed moments later when substitute Benjamin Šeško scored shortly after coming off the bench, finishing confidently to give the home side a two-goal cushion.

The victory moves Manchester United three points clear of Aston Villa and six ahead of Chelsea, significantly strengthening their bid to secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
