Kylian Mbappé scores as France beats Brazil, moving one goal away from Olivier Giroud’s national record in a thrilling friendly match

Kylian Mbappé moved within one goal of Olivier Giroud’s all-time scoring record as France defeated Brazil 2-0 in a friendly at Gillette Stadium.

The Madrid forward opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, finishing calmly over goalkeeper Ederson after a perfectly timed through ball from Ousmane Dembélé.

The strike took Mbappé’s international tally to 56 in just 95 appearances.

Returning to the starting lineup after recovering from a knee injury sustained at Real Madrid, Mbappé showed sharpness throughout the first half.

He narrowly missed two further chances before being substituted in the 66th minute for Marcus Thuram.

France’s challenge intensified after defender Dayot Upamecano was sent off for a last-man foul on Brazil full-back Wesley just outside the penalty area.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Didier Deschamps’s side maintained control.

The lead was doubled in the 65th minute when Hugo Ekitiké produced a delicate chipped finish from close range, sealing the 2-0 victory.

The friendly win highlighted France’s squad depth and resilience, but the spotlight remained on Mbappé.
