The 23-year-old attacker returned to the national team setup after missing recent camps due to injury, but Tuchel emphasised that no player will be guaranteed a role.

Tuchel highlighted that England’s attacking midfield options are stronger than ever, with competition for the number 10 position coming from Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden.

The England boss made clear that squad places will be earned on merit rather than reputation.

“We have more evidence without him than with him, so the pressure is on him. He had a difficult season, but he has also had a difficult spell with the national team,” Tuchel said.

“He needs to show up. He cannot hold back. He fights for his place, and we will not hand anything to anyone on a silver platter.”

Despite the warning, Tuchel acknowledged Palmer’s positive attitude since rejoining the squad.

The forward has impressed with his energy and engagement in training sessions, but the manager stressed that this must translate into decisive performances on the pitch.

“He is in good spirits, he is open, and he is communicating and showing his quality. These are important steps to demonstrate performance and connections within the group, so he will get his chances during the next matches,” Tuchel added.
