Nigerian Army rescues five abducted commuters after suspected IPOB/ESN attack, intensifies patrols under Operation UDO KA in Southeast

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued five persons abducted by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during an attack on commuters travelling toward Anambra State.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Army said troops of the Joint Task Force Southeast Operation UDO KA received a distress call at about 6:55 p.m. on Friday reporting that suspected IPOB/ESN elements had attacked travellers en route to Anambra.

According to the statement, troops immediately mobilised to the scene and engaged the armed attackers with what it described as superior firepower and tactical manoeuvres.

“The swift and well-coordinated response compelled the criminals to abandon their captives and flee,” the Army said.

It added that five kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed, and their vehicle was recovered intact.

Following the operation, troops have intensified aggressive patrols and area domination efforts to prevent regrouping by the fleeing suspects and to further degrade criminal activities in the region.

The Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives, securing critical routes, and dismantling terrorist and criminal networks across the Southeast.
