Aguero made the comments during an interview with Jijantes, reacting to claims that Alvarez had informed Atletico Madrid of his desire to leave Diego Simeone’s side during the ongoing 2026 World Cup.

According to reports, Alvarez disclosed after Argentina’s 2-0 win over Austria that he had held discussions with Atletico Madrid regarding his future and expressed a willingness to move on from the Spanish club.

Speaking on the situation, Aguero stressed that clubs should prioritise player satisfaction when resolving transfer disputes.

“The club won’t comment on anything, and the player has no choice but to be honest,” Aguero said.

“He said he’s met with the club, and both parties agree that a transfer is the best option.”

The former striker added that forcing an unhappy player to remain at a club could be counterproductive.

“If I were the club and a player was unhappy in the city, or for any other reason, dissatisfaction with teammates or the coach, if he feels uncomfortable, the best way is to find a solution and sell him,” he stated.

Alvarez’s future at Atletico Madrid has become a growing talking point in the transfer market, with speculation mounting over a possible summer exit if the club receives suitable offers.

The Argentine forward remains one of the most closely watched names in the window, with several European clubs reportedly monitoring his situation.

Atletico Madrid have not publicly confirmed any decision regarding the striker’s future.
