Spanish giants reportedly open talks that could send Julian Alvarez to Arsenal in exchange for Viktor Gyokeres amid a complex summer transfer strategy

Atletico Madrid are reportedly exploring a sensational transfer arrangement that could see Julian Alvarez move to Arsenal as part of a potential swap deal involving Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.

According to Spanish outlet COPE, Atletico Madrid are open to offloading Alvarez this summer after the Argentine forward reportedly expressed a desire to leave the Wanda Metropolitano.

The 25-year-old striker has attracted growing interest across Europe following an impressive spell in Spain, with Atletico now considering different transfer structures rather than a straightforward sale.

Reports suggest the La Liga club are unwilling to sell Alvarez to domestic rivals Barcelona, despite speculation linking the Argentine with a move to the Catalan giants.

Instead, Atletico are said to prefer negotiating with clubs outside Spain, with Arsenal emerging as a potential destination in a complex deal that could involve Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres moving in the opposite direction.

It is understood that Atletico Madrid value any potential agreement involving Arsenal at between €60 million and €80 million, alongside Gyokeres as part of the package.

However, Barcelona would face a significantly higher financial barrier, with Atletico reportedly insisting on triggering Alvarez’s €500 million release clause should negotiations ever reach that stage.

Arsenal’s involvement in the proposed deal remains speculative at this stage, but the Premier League side have previously been linked with attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season.

Gyokeres, who has been in prolific form in Portugal, is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards, adding further intrigue to the potential multi-club negotiation.

Atletico’s stance reflects a broader strategy aimed at maximising value from one of their key attacking assets while reshaping their frontline ahead of the upcoming campaign.
