Abia retirees urge Governor Alex Otti not to spend on campaigns, praising his achievements and warning against political manipulation ahead of 2027 polls

Retirees in Abia State under the aegis of Concerned Abia Pensioners have urged Governor Alex Otti not to spend funds on political campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections, saying his achievements will naturally attract voters.

The pensioners, who held their bi-weekly meeting in Umuahia on Thursday, also warned that any attempt by politicians to manipulate the state’s political outcome would fail.

Coordinator Emeka Okezie and other leaders recalled the hardships pensioners endured during previous administrations due to alleged non-payment of pensions.

They commended Governor Otti for his efforts since assuming office and reminded him of his 2025 promise to pay their gratuity.

“The Governor should not waste money campaigning. He has done more than expected within the space of less than three years,” Okezie said.

The retirees also appealed to the state government to ensure the outgoing executive of the National Union of Pensioners (NUP) reopens its office, which had remained locked for years, forcing pensioners to hold meetings in the open air.
