Aina, the Nigeria international, missed several months of the season due to a hamstring injury sustained in September.

Before the setback, he had established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent full-backs and signed a contract extension, committing his future to the City Ground despite interest from top clubs including Manchester City.

During Aina’s absence, Neco Williams filled in at full-back, but Forest struggled for consistency. Since regaining full fitness in January, Aina has returned to the starting line-up, coinciding with improved team performances.

Nottingham Forest have lost only two of their last five matches in normal time, showing greater defensive stability.

Aina impressed particularly in last weekend’s 1–1 draw against Crystal Palace, producing a disciplined defensive display that helped Forest hold on after Williams was sent off just before half-time.

Reid, who spent a decade at Nottingham Forest, emphasised Aina’s all-round contribution. “He’s a big plus for this team coming back in,” Reid told Sky Sports.

“What he does, not just defensively but going forward as well, and then you couple that with the personality he brings in. He was a big miss when he was out. He brings that personality, defensive solidity and pace, but he’s also a real threat going forward. The manager will be delighted to have him back.”

Forest currently sit 17th in the Premier League table and will look to Aina to maintain form as they aim to climb away from the relegation zone.
