The Gender Educator Initiative has condemned the Zamfara women abductions, calling for urgent security action, trauma support, and protection of vulnerable communities

Zamfara women abductions have drawn sharp condemnation from the Gender Educator Initiative (GEI), a nonprofit advocating for the rights of women and children.

The group described the recent attacks in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Zamfara State — where gunmen killed at least five and abducted dozens, mostly women — as “coordinated assaults” that demand urgent national attention.

In a statement on Tuesday, Shafa’atu Suleiman, Founder and Executive Lead of GEI, expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the escalating violence.

“Every woman abducted is not just a statistic; she is a mother, a sister, a caregiver, and a voice that deserves to be heard — not silenced by violence,” Suleiman said.

GEI warned that beyond the immediate horror, the Zamfara women abductions have long-term consequences on victims’ mental health, reproductive well-being, and economic survival.

The organisation called on both federal and state authorities to:

• Deploy additional security to vulnerable communities
• Ensure safe return and rehabilitation of abducted women
• Establish trauma services including counselling, shelter, and legal aid
• Invest in education and economic empowerment for women in conflict zones

“The safety and freedom of women and children should never be negotiable,” the group stressed, urging media and civil society to keep focus on the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Zamfara.
