Zamfara Mass Wedding to support 200 orphans, alongside grants, training, and debt relief for women and vulnerable residents

The Zamfara State Government has concluded plans for a Zamfara Mass Wedding that will sponsor the marriage of 200 orphans across the state, the Zakkat and Endowment Board revealed on Thursday.

Speaking to journalists in Gusau, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Malam Habibu Balarabe, said the ceremony would take place on Monday, November 23, 2025, at the Board’s premises.

He confirmed that all beneficiaries had been properly screened and selected to ensure transparency and fairness.

Balarabe explained that the initiative aims to provide stability, dignity and support to vulnerable orphans who lack family backing.

He described the programme as part of the Board’s broader mandate to uplift the less-privileged and strengthen social welfare structures within the state.

In addition to the Zamfara Mass Wedding, the Board will also provide grants to 200 women engaged in small-scale businesses to help them expand their enterprises and improve their livelihoods.

According to Balarabe, 100 of the women completed a three-week poultry farming training programme and will receive starter packs to help them begin commercial production.

He added that arrangements had been made to settle selected debt cases in Shari’ah Courts and correctional centres to relieve families facing financial distress.

This intervention, he said, reflects the Board’s commitment to easing hardship and promoting justice for vulnerable citizens.

The Executive Secretary also revealed that some orphans had completed computer literacy training and would receive starter packs during the ceremony to help them pursue digital and entrepreneurial opportunities.

He noted that empowerment, not just financial assistance, remains essential to long-term sustainability.
