Yeni Kuti Wizkid reaction sparks fresh debate as she speaks on Seun Kuti clash and urges Nigerians to honour Fela’s legacy

Yeni Kuti, the first child of the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has finally spoken on the heated online clash between her brother, Seun Kuti, and award winning singer Wizkid, offering a calm and emotional appeal for unity.

Speaking on Thursday during an appearance on TVC’s Your View programme, Yeni Kuti explained that she deliberately stayed away from the public exchange despite the controversy it generated. According to her, the decision was driven by her close personal relationship with Wizkid.

The Yeni Kuti Wizkid reaction follows days of intense online arguments after Seun Kuti criticised Wizkid’s fanbase, popularly known as Wizkid FC, for comparing the singer’s influence with that of their late father.

The disagreement escalated when Wizkid responded directly to Seun, declaring that he was bigger than Fela, a remark that triggered widespread outrage and debate across social media.

Addressing the situation, Yeni described Wizkid as a longtime friend of the Kuti family and recalled his early involvement with the New Afrika Shrine during Felabration.

She said her affection for the singer made it impossible for her to engage in the insults exchanged online.

She urged Nigerians to reflect on the bigger picture, stressing that public feuds over Fela’s legacy only harm the country’s image. In her words, when powerful figures clash, ordinary people bear the consequences.

Yeni further called on the public to focus on celebrating Fela’s enduring global impact, especially with renewed attention on his legacy ahead of the Grammy Awards.

She warned that internal disputes risk undermining national pride rather than defending the late icon.

The Yeni Kuti Wizkid reaction also addressed the recurring comparisons between contemporary artists and Fela. She noted that the continued reference to Fela’s name nearly three decades after his death was proof of his unmatched greatness and lasting influence.

Emphasising respect for the dead, Yeni appealed to those involved to resolve their differences without dragging Fela into present day conflicts.

She maintained that disagreements should remain among the living and not be projected onto a man who had already cemented his place in history.
