FCT Minister Nyesom Wike is accused of demolishing a Maitama property despite a court order, prompting potential contempt proceedings

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has been accused of flouting a valid court order by allegedly demolishing a fence at Plot 4583, Maitama, Abuja.

The allegation was made by Mykas Grid Ventures Ltd, the property owner, through its Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim, represented by lawyer Balla Dakum.

Dakum said the action occurred despite a court directive issued on February 10 by Justice H. Mu’azu of the FCT High Court, instructing all parties to maintain the status quo pending further hearings.

“Earlier today, despite a valid and subsisting court order directing all parties to maintain the status quo, the minister proceeded to demolish a fence on the disputed property at Plot AO6/4583, Maitama, Abuja,” Dakum stated.

The lawyer warned that his team may pursue a contempt charge if the matter is not addressed, emphasising that “no individual, no matter how highly placed, is above the law.” He noted that Wike arrived with over 50 armed policemen and acted without formal notice, moving vehicles and property without taking inventory.

Alhaji Ibrahim said he initially obtained the allocation of the 1.5-hectare plot in 2006, during the tenure of former FCT Minister Malam Nasir El-Rufai. The property was later redesigned, reducing its size to 8,572.60 m².

Ibrahim claimed that the land was reallocated last November to an Italian company without his consent, prompting him to file a legal action.

The FCT High Court has adjourned the matter until April 23, 2026, following a motion ex-parte filed by Mykas Grid Ventures Ltd on December 5, 2025, seeking an interim injunction to restrain the defendants, including Wike and Italia Company Ltd, from taking possession of the property.

“This deliberate demolition raises serious constitutional and legal concerns. It suggests a disregard for judicial authority and undermines public confidence in our institutions,” Dakum added.

The property owner called on President Bola Tinubu to caution the minister against any further actions that may contravene court orders.
