Wema Bank celebrates Wemalympics 10th anniversary, honouring staff with sports, prizes, and team bonding in Nigeria’s largest internal sports event

Wema Bank celebrates Wemalympics 10th anniversary with a vibrant showcase of sportsmanship, unity, and employee wellbeing, reaffirming its commitment to fostering a healthy work-life balance.

Now in its tenth year, the Wemalympics has become the largest internal sporting event in Nigeria’s banking sector, drawing over 7,000 attendees — including employees, their families, partners, and sponsors — to a full day of athletic activities and entertainment.

With the 2025 theme, “We Strive, We Bond, We Win”, the event featured a variety of indoor and outdoor competitions, ceremonial displays, cheerleading routines, and the official unveiling of the new Wemalympics Anthem.

Team South West emerged triumphant, securing their fourth consecutive victory and sixth overall win, while Team Lagos came a close second after a tense football final.

Team South South/South East and Team North placed third and fourth respectively.

Wema Bank’s Managing Director/CEO, Moruf Oseni, lauded the spirit of camaraderie and unity on display, thanking participants and supporters for sustaining the decade-long tradition.

“This is our 10th year of Wemalympics, and I must say thank you to all staff, families, sponsors, and partners who make this possible. The energy I witnessed today shows that together, there’s nothing we can’t achieve. As we compete with passion, let’s remember — we are one, and we are all winners,” said Oseni.

He emphasised the role of such initiatives in promoting a holistic employee experience, stating that Wemalympics reflects Wema Bank’s broader commitment to employee engagement and wellbeing.

Sunday Olaitan, the Regional Executive for the South West, received the overall winner’s trophy and echoed the importance of the event in boosting morale and strengthening internal bonds.

“South West has always been a formidable force at Wemalympics. Today marks our sixth victory overall and our fourth in a row — a testament to our resilience and unity.”

Star prizes included a brand-new WULING Bingo electric vehicle, presented to the winning region by GAC Motors, and two round-trip flight tickets for the fastest male and female athletes in the 100m race, sponsored by Wakanow.
