Victor Osimhen sets a new Nigerian record in the Champions League with eight goal involvements for Galatasaray in 2025/26 season

Victor Osimhen made history on Tuesday as Galatasaray defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg in Turkey.

Mario Lemina scored the only goal in the first half, giving the Turkish Super Lig champions a first-leg advantage ahead of next week’s return leg.

According to OptaJoe, Osimhen has now been involved in eight Champions League goals this season — seven goals and one assist — making him the Nigerian player with the most goal involvements in a single Champions League campaign.

He surpasses fellow Nigerians Ademola Lookman, Tijani Babangida, Yakubu Ayegbeni, and John Utaka, who each recorded six goal involvements.
