Senator Bamidele pays tributes to Buhari and Adetona, honouring their legacy of peace, leadership, and national unity following their deaths on 13 July 2025

Tributes to Buhari and Adetona have poured in from across Nigeria, with Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele describing both late leaders as icons of unity and national progress.

In a statement from Abuja, Bamidele praised former President Muhammadu Buhari and the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who both died on Sunday, 13 July 2025.

“Buhari, as Military Head of State between January 1984 and August 1985, epitomised discipline, personal integrity and strong leadership,” Bamidele said.

He noted Buhari’s tireless commitment to fighting public corruption and his instrumental role in forming the All Progressives Congress, which came to power in 2015.

Bamidele also extended his condolences to Aisha Buhari, the children of the late president, traditional rulers in the Daura Emirate, Katsina State, and President Bola Tinubu.

On Oba Adetona’s passing, Bamidele celebrated his 65-year reign as the paramount ruler of Ijebuland, noting his influence in fostering peace and inclusive governance across Ogun State and Nigeria.

“Oba Sikiru Adetona was a staunch defender of his people and a guardian of royal values through Nigeria’s military and democratic eras,” he said.

He added that the monarch remained apolitical throughout his reign and offered fatherly guidance to all Nigerians, regardless of their political or religious views.

Bamidele described both leaders as “national assets” whose contributions to unity, stability, and good governance will endure. “Their legacy of leadership and patriotism will remain a moral compass for generations to come,” he said.\
