Aba-Port Harcourt expressway accident claimed the life of a young girl and left 14 others injured in a tragic crash involving an 18-seater commercial bus on Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. along the Isiala Ngwa Ntigha section of the expressway, according to Ngozi Ezeoma, Sector Commander of the Abia State Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).

“It involved a commercial bus with 18 passengers. Nine male adults and five female adults sustained injuries, while one female child was confirmed dead at the hospital,” Ezeoma told Daily Post.

The bus, reportedly coming from Ebonyi State, veered off the road and somersaulted into nearby bushes after allegedly suffering a tire failure, according to an eyewitness and fellow transporter, Chukwudi Gideon.

The swift response from Abia State Emergency Response Team, led by Faithwin Obioma Analaba, alongside FRSC officers, ensured that the injured victims received immediate medical attention.

The official cause of the Aba-Port Harcourt expressway accident is still under investigation, but preliminary reports suggest a mechanical fault may have triggered the deadly crash.
