Tinubu Windsor speech highlights Nigerians’ impact in UK, citing athletes and NHS workers as symbols of strong bilateral ties

President Bola Tinubu has delivered a powerful address at Windsor Castle, where he praised Nigerians and people of Nigerian descent in the United Kingdom, highlighting their contributions to national life and strengthening bilateral ties.

Speaking during a state visit on Wednesday, Bola Tinubu addressed King Charles III and underscored the deep human and cultural connections between Nigeria and the UK, drawing attention to achievements in sport, healthcare and beyond.

Bola Tinubu referenced prominent athletes of Nigerian heritage, including Anthony Joshua, Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze, describing them as vivid examples of the enduring bond between both nations.

The president also mentioned Maro Itoje as part of the growing list of influential figures shaping British sport.

“Nigerians contribute enormously to the vitality of this nation,” Bola Tinubu said, noting that Nigerian professionals are among the largest groups of international medical workers within the National Health Service.

The president emphasised that Nigerian doctors and nurses play an indispensable role in delivering healthcare services across the UK, reinforcing the country’s reputation for excellence in professional migration.

In sport, Bola Tinubu said figures such as Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze have become central to England’s football success, while Anthony Joshua remains one of Britain’s most recognisable sporting figures following his Olympic triumph and multiple world heavyweight titles.
