Tinubu appoints new Permanent Secretaries in a move that underscores his administration’s commitment to meritocracy, transparency, and efficient public service delivery.

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of five new Permanent Secretaries to fill existing vacancies in the Federal Civil Service, following what officials described as a “rigorous and transparent” selection process.

The announcement was made in Abuja by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, through a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mrs Eno Olotu.

According to the statement, the new appointees are Ibrahim Ozi for the Federal Capital Territory, Ezemama Chidiebere for Imo State, Garba Usman representing the North Central Zone, Mohammed Ishiyaku for the North East, and Ukaire Chigbowu for the South East.

Walson-Jack noted that the selection process adhered strictly to the principles of fairness and merit, ensuring that only the most qualified officers were considered.

She emphasised that the new Permanent Secretaries bring a wealth of administrative experience that would enhance policy implementation and strengthen institutional capacity within the Civil Service.

She further commended President Tinubu for what she described as a “bold demonstration of faith in merit-based leadership,” stressing that the appointments reflect his dedication to building a competent, professional, and results-driven bureaucracy capable of meeting citizens’ expectations.

The Office of the Head of the Civil Service had earlier confirmed the commencement of the appointment process after the President’s approval.

The exercise followed the retirement of two Permanent Secretaries and the creation of new ministries, which opened five strategic vacancies.

Eligible officers were required to be on Grade Level 17, with at least two years of service on the grade and no pending disciplinary issues—a measure aimed at maintaining integrity and discipline at the top levels of governance.

With these appointments, the Federal Government aims to inject renewed vigour and direction into public administration, aligning with Tinubu’s broader vision of a transparent and service-oriented civil structure.
