Sokoto Christian leaders insecurity concerns prompt CAN and PFN calls for unity, prayer and stronger government action during Easter event

Christian leaders in Sokoto State have called for urgent action to address insecurity, alongside renewed unity and collective responsibility among citizens, during the 2026 Easter Praise and Prayer for Peace organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria.

The event, held at the Deeper Life Bible Church, brought together worshippers from various denominations who gathered to pray for peace in the state and across the country amid rising concerns over banditry, kidnapping and violent attacks.

The Sokoto Christian leaders insecurity concerns formed the central theme of the gathering, with speakers urging both spiritual reflection and practical measures to address the worsening security situation.

Chairman of CAN in Sokoto State, Rev. Kayode Moses James, said the resurrection of Jesus Christ remains a symbol of hope in difficult times, noting that the message of Easter reinforces faith in the possibility of peace returning to troubled communities.

He described the gathering as both a religious celebration and a collective appeal for divine intervention, while expressing concern over the impact of insecurity on families and communities across northern Nigeria.

Rev. James lamented that many residents have been displaced and lives lost due to recurring attacks, calling on government authorities and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect citizens and restore stability.

Also speaking at the event, Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria in Sokoto State, Pastor Ben Musa, emphasised the importance of Christian unity, describing the Easter celebration as an opportunity to strengthen bonds among believers.

Pastor Musa noted that national progress requires sacrifice, drawing parallels between the Easter message and the need for collective responsibility among Nigerians to overcome current challenges.

He outlined a threefold approach to addressing insecurity, urging intensified prayer, stronger government action in safeguarding lives, and responsible conduct among citizens.

According to him, coordinated efforts between faith communities, government institutions and individuals are essential to achieving lasting peace and stability.

The gathering concluded with prayers for national healing, unity and an end to violence, as participants expressed hope that combined spiritual and civic efforts would contribute to a safer and more stable Nigeria.
