Seyi Makinde HIV/AIDS funding of N45m strengthens Oyo’s fight, with test kits and OYSACA ambassadors to raise awareness and reduce stigma

Seyi Makinde HIV/AIDS funding has received a significant boost after the Oyo State Governor approved N45 million to strengthen the capacity of the State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA).

The announcement was made on Thursday through his deputy, Bayo Lawal, during the inauguration of OYSACA Ambassadors at the agency’s Conference Room, Agodi, Ibadan.

In a statement issued by Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, the governor explained that the funds, alongside the recent approval for the purchase of HIV test kits, are aimed at curbing the spread of the disease and improving healthcare delivery in the state.

Makinde reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to public health, highlighting that the newly inaugurated ambassadors — including Saka Balogun, Ayo Ladigbolu, Mutiat Ladoja, Rasaq Adeleke, Wale Saminu, and Shina Peller — would play a crucial role in raising awareness and fighting stigma.

“The inauguration of these ambassadors marks a significant milestone in our collective journey towards a future where HIV/AIDS is no longer a public health threat,” he said. “They are the champions of change, the voices for the silent, and the beacon of hope for those in darkness.”

The governor urged the ambassadors to inspire education, promote truth, and save lives, stressing that their roles would ensure that those living with HIV/AIDS are supported, embraced, and empowered.

He added that the Omituntun 2.0 agenda continues to prioritize health as one of its key pillars for sustainable development in Oyo State.

Earlier, OYSACA Chairman, Gbola Adetunji, commended Makinde’s proactive stance, noting that the funds will allow the agency to better reach high-risk populations and deliver life-saving interventions effectively.
