Sani Suleman joins RB Leipzig from AS Trenčín on a five-year deal, becoming the Bundesliga club’s latest top young attacking talent

Nigerian winger Sani Suleman has completed a transfer to RB Leipzig from Slovak side AS Trenčín, signing a five-year contract that runs until 30 June 2031, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Bundesliga club confirmed the signing on their official website on Tuesday evening, describing Suleman as a young attacking option for the club’s future. He will wear the number 18 shirt.

Sky Germany reported that the base transfer fee is slightly above €5 million, rising to around €6 million with performance-related bonuses.

The player also clarified that his first name is Suleman, not Suleiman, correcting earlier misspellings by his former club and some media outlets.

Suleman’s move concludes a competitive transfer race that attracted interest from clubs across Europe, including Bayer Leverkusen, Tottenham, Chelsea, PSG, Brentford, and Rangers, as well as sides in Saudi Arabia and Belgium.

The 19-year-old has developed a growing reputation in Europe and internationally.

In November, he ranked sixth globally among U-20 players for completed dribbles and progressive carries, according to the CIES Football Observatory.

In October, he topped CIES rankings as the most creative U-21 player for last-third penetrative passes per 90 minutes, averaging 2.52 per game.

Suleman began his career at Akwa United, where he won the 2024 NPFL Rookie of the Season Award, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists in 15 matches at age 17.

He later impressed with Nigeria’s U-20 side at the 2025 FIFA World Cup in Chile before establishing himself as a key attacking figure at AS Trenčín.

As RB Leipzig’s first winter signing, Suleman is expected to be integrated into the club’s long-term development strategy, which focuses on nurturing elite young talent capable of performing at the highest levels of European football.
