Rivers State Police arrest two suspects over murder in Eleme LGA, recovering victim Sampson Worianime’s body and investigating accomplices

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a youth, Sampson Worianime, in the Eleto community of Eleme Local Government Area.

Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the state police command, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the suspects allegedly abducted Worianime from Okrika LGA and transported him to Eleme, where the crime was committed.

The arrest followed a petition from the victim’s mother regarding her missing son.

“The Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched an investigation, leveraging intelligence led policing, leading to the arrest of two suspects: Igwe Alex, 26, Chief Security Officer of Aleto-Eleme Community, and John Mikel, 24, also of Aleto community,” Iringe-Koko said.

During preliminary investigations, the suspects confessed to abducting two youths, one of whom escaped.

Worianime was killed, and his body was dumped into a nearby river.

The suspects led police to the location of a shallow grave, where the victim’s remains were recovered.

The suspects are currently in police custody and cooperating with investigators, while authorities continue efforts to apprehend additional accomplices.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, directed a thorough investigation to ensure all perpetrators face the full extent of the law.

The command urged members of the public to provide information that may assist ongoing inquiries.

In a related note, the Edo State Police Command in December arrested a man, Eghosa Osas, for the alleged murder of his childhood friend, Amadin Williams.

The suspect is to be charged in court upon completion of investigations.
