Rasheedat Ajibade reacts to WAFCON 2026 postponement after CAF moved the women’s tournament from March to July

Rasheedat Ajibade, captain of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, has expressed disappointment over the Rasheedat Ajibade WAFCON 2026 postponement following the decision by Confederation of African Football to delay the continental tournament.

The competition, officially known as the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, was originally scheduled to begin on March 17 but has now been moved to July 2026.

CAF announced the postponement on Thursday, citing “unforeseen circumstances” for the change in schedule.

Reacting to the development, Ajibade voiced her frustration on the social media platform X, stressing that African women’s football deserves greater respect and better planning.

“African women’s football deserves better,” Ajibade wrote, adding an emoji expressing disappointment.

The reaction reflects growing concern among players and stakeholders about the management and visibility of women’s football on the continent.

The Super Falcons recently played two friendly matches against Cameroon Women’s National Football Team as part of preparations for upcoming international competitions.

Nigeria remains the most successful nation in the history of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and is expected to compete strongly when the rescheduled tournament kicks off in July.
