Portugal started strongly and created several early chances before breaking the deadlock through Chelsea winger Pedro Neto in the 23rd minute.

Nigeria responded well and restored parity before half-time, with Akor Adams finishing off a well-worked move to level the contest and silence the home crowd.

The match remained evenly balanced in the second half until substitute Francisco Conceição struck 15 minutes from time to secure victory for the hosts.

Speaking after the game, Martinez admitted the encounter tested his squad significantly, particularly due to Nigeria’s physical presence and direct attacking style.

He noted that facing an African opponent offered a different challenge, stressing that his team had to adapt to Nigeria’s intensity and movement in the attacking third.

“It was a fantastic test. The opponent was demanding, from a different culture. We don’t usually play against African teams,” Martinez said.
