Police Integrity Award Nigeria: SP Sentome Obi gets car and house after rejecting \$17,000 bribe. Tinubu, IGP hail him as symbol of ethical policing in Nigeria

Police Integrity Award Nigeria has taken center stage as Superintendent of Police (SP) Sentome Obi was celebrated for rejecting a \$17,000 bribe and upholding ethical standards.

On July 23, 2025, the Bayelsa State Government, led by Governor Douye Diri, honoured SP Obi at a grand state banquet in Yenagoa. Obi received the Police Officer of the Year 2024 and the prestigious IGP Integrity Award.

As part of the reward for his unwavering professionalism, Obi was gifted a brand-new Toyota Corolla and a fully furnished three-bedroom bungalow. The officer, a Bayelsa native, heads the Financial and Cybercrime Unit at Zone 16, Yenagoa.

In a powerful endorsement, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun commended the recognition as a watershed moment in embedding integrity in Nigeria’s policing culture. “This is more than a commendation—it’s a cultural statement,” he emphasized.

The Police Integrity Award Nigeria initiative reflects the IGP’s broader strategy to build a modern, ethically driven force. His team has recommended SP Obi and CSP Aliyu Shaba (Police Officer of the Year 2023) for accelerated promotion.

The Police Management also resolved to prominently display the portraits of both officers at major police command locations and headquarters to symbolize excellence in public service.

Further reforms include a merit-based promotion framework. Officers who win multiple integrity awards will be prioritized for elevation. This bold move aims to embed reward-for-performance and redefine policing standards across Nigeria.
