Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has issued a blunt assessment of Arsenal’s prospects for the upcoming Premier League season, suggesting that Mikel Arteta’s side will struggle to retain their title and could even finish outside the top three.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast on Tuesday, Scholes offered a critical outlook on the reigning champions, casting doubt on their ability to dominate the league once again.

Arsenal Premier League prediction from Paul scholes placed Arsenal’s title defence under scrutiny, with the former England international stating that the Gunners could end the campaign as low as fourth position depending on how rival clubs strengthen in the transfer window.

He pointed to Manchester United and Liverpool as clubs capable of challenging strongly for the title, while also noting that Manchester City may experience a transitional period under new managerial leadership.

“I think Manchester United will have a chance under Michael Carrick if they do some good business,” Scholes said during the podcast.

“Liverpool, I expect them to go again. Man City have a good team, but they will have a new manager. People are expecting Arsenal to go and dominate. I just don’t see that.”

The former midfielder added that it would not be surprising if Arsenal finished third or fourth, given the expected competitiveness of the league.
