Despite the setback, Arsenal remain in contention for the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League under manager Mikel Arteta.

However, Merson warned that Arsenal could struggle against elite opposition in the remaining competitions.

He pointed to the possibility of facing Manchester City again in the FA Cup, suggesting the Gunners would find it difficult to overcome their rivals at Wembley.
