Abia North senator says the APC remains politically dominant, backs President Bola Tinubu’s reforms and urges party unity ahead of the 2027 general election

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District, has declared that President Bola Tinubu has no credible challenger ahead of the 2027 presidential election, expressing confidence that the All Progressives Congress will retain power despite growing political realignments across the country.

Kalu made the remarks at his hometown of Igbere in Bende Local Government Area during a meeting with members of his political platforms, the OUK Movement and Reality Organisation, alongside leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress in Abia State.

The former Abia State governor argued that the opposition remained too fragmented to pose a serious electoral threat to the ruling party.

“I can assure you, just like President Tinubu has no competitor in 2027, APC as a party has no challenge. The opposition in the country is in tatters; they are yet to put their houses in order and do not have the capacity to challenge APC,” Kalu said.

The senator described Tinubu as a courageous leader willing to make difficult decisions in the country’s long-term interest, even as he acknowledged that many Nigerians continued to face economic hardship.

“Tinubu is what a good leader should be; he is not afraid of taking decisions. He is taking hard decisions for the interest of the country.

“The President’s economic policies may not have taken Nigeria to where it should be, but we are getting there. It is true we are still battling with the micro economy, but the macro economy is doing well,” he added.

Kalu also defended his legislative record, telling supporters that he had fulfilled the mandate given to him by the people of Abia North through infrastructure and education projects attracted to the district.

According to him, no other senatorial district has attracted more federal projects than Abia North during his tenure, citing the rehabilitation of roads, reconstruction of schools and the distribution of uniforms and textbooks to pupils within the constituency.

The senator said he remained accountable to his constituents and would willingly step aside if they decided they no longer wanted him as their representative.

“I have been representing my people with their mandate, and any day they say they don’t want me again, I will return home,” he said.

Expressing confidence about his own political future, Kalu said he expected to return to the Senate after the 2027 elections and predicted that the APC would make significant electoral gains in Abia State, including securing victory for Tinubu in the presidential poll.

He, however, cautioned the state’s APC leadership against actions capable of creating internal divisions, urging party officials to manage their affairs with fairness, maturity and inclusiveness.

Kalu explained that he invited members of the APC to the stakeholders’ meeting to strengthen party unity and improve coordination ahead of the next election cycle.

Former APC governorship aspirant Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu also appealed to party members to remain united, saying his decision to withdraw from the party’s governorship primary last month was made to preserve cohesion within the APC.

Mascot Kalu urged members to work collectively for the re-election of President Tinubu and support all APC candidates in Abia State during the 2027 general election.

Other party stakeholders, including Chiefs George Nnanna Kalu and Uche Ogboso, praised Senator Kalu’s representation at the National Assembly and pledged to mobilise support for his re-election.

The comments come as political parties continue to reposition ahead of the 2027 general election. While the APC has intensified efforts to consolidate support across the country, opposition parties have been exploring alliances and internal restructuring in an attempt to mount a stronger challenge to the ruling party.
