A 22-year-old suspect is accused of drugging a 15-year-old girl with a malt drink before the alleged assault in Ogun State

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 22-year-old Daniel in Ogun State over allegations that he drugged a 15-year-old girl with a malt drink before sexually assaulting her, as investigators move to establish the circumstances surrounding the disturbing incident.

The arrest was disclosed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, in a statement issued on Sunday, August 30, 2026, as part of the police’s latest nationwide operational update.

According to the police, Daniel allegedly gave the teenager a malt drink which caused her to lose consciousness before he allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of her without her consent.

The girl was subsequently taken to Olukoye Ransome-Kuti Memorial Hospital in Asero for medical examination, while Daniel was arrested and placed in custody.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran for further investigation.

The police said the investigation would determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and guide any subsequent prosecution.

The case has drawn attention to the vulnerability of minors to sexual violence and the importance of prompt medical care and law enforcement intervention when allegations of abuse are reported.

The latest arrest is also part of a wider pattern of sexual-offence investigations reported by the police across several states in recent days.

In Cross River State, for instance, police arrested 37-year-old security guard Ndifreke Godwin over the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl. The child was referred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for medical attention, while the suspect remained in custody. (Zamantika)

In Gombe State, 50-year-old Iliya Ibrahim was also arrested over an allegation involving his seven-year-old stepdaughter, with the police saying both the suspect and the child were taken to a specialist hospital for medical examination. (Zamantika)

The Ogun case follows another defilement investigation in the state involving a substantially older suspect.

On July 21, detectives attached to the Agbado Division arrested 50-year-old Saliu Akinwande over allegations involving an 11-year-old girl. The victim was taken for medical examination and treatment before the case was transferred to the SCID in Eleweran for further investigation and prosecution. (Punch Newspapers)

The recurrence of such cases has placed renewed emphasis on the responsibility of law enforcement agencies to protect children and vulnerable people while ensuring that allegations are investigated fairly and professionally.

The police have not disclosed further details about the relationship between Daniel and the teenager, where the alleged incident occurred, or whether other people are being investigated.

Those details could become clearer as detectives at the SCID, Eleweran, continue their inquiry.

The police have also not indicated that Daniel has been charged in court. He remains an alleged offender at this stage, and the claims against him have yet to be tested through judicial proceedings.

The case therefore remains subject to investigation, with the immediate priorities being the protection and welfare of the teenager, the preservation of relevant evidence and the establishment of the facts.

The arrest nevertheless sends a significant message about the consequences of allegations involving the sexual exploitation of minors, particularly where investigators suspect that a victim may have been rendered unconscious before an assault.

As the investigation continues, the focus will now turn to whether the evidence gathered by detectives supports the allegations and whether the suspect will ultimately face formal charges.
