Four Nigerians arrested in India over drug trafficking; authorities seize cocaine and heroin amid expanding anti-narcotics operations

No fewer than four Nigerians have been arrested in India over drug-related offences during separate operations carried out between Thursday and Saturday.

The arrests took place in different parts of the country as part of coordinated anti-narcotics initiatives.

The suspects include 37-year-old Tanguy Nguessan, Touchi, Henry, and IK Prince.

According to the Free Press Journal, Nguessan was arrested by the Tulinj Police Detection Team and the Anti-Terrorism Cell during a raid in the Pragati Nagar area of Nalasopara East, following a tip-off that he intended to traffic drugs.

Officers recovered 60 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately ₹12.6 million (around N205 million on the international market).

Nguessan is currently in police custody while investigations continue.

In Rajasthan, two Nigerians, identified as Touchi and Henry, were arrested over the trafficking of MD drugs.

Police reports indicate the arrests followed raids in Faridabad, Haryana, and Delhi, with further investigation revealing the suspects were living illegally in India using forged documents.

Authorities also recovered a list of alleged drug dealers operating in Jaipur and other parts of the state.

In a separate operation, IK Prince, described as a major drug trafficking kingpin, was arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force in Delhi’s Sadar Bazaar area on Thursday.

Prince was later remanded in judicial custody in Mathura.

Police linked him to a heroin network following the October arrest of two associates found with 1.045 kilograms of heroin.

During the operation, 1.8 kilograms of heroin, valued between ₹6 and ₹8 crore, were seized.

Authorities have informed the Nigerian Embassy and are investigating the wider network connected to the arrests.

The Gorakhpur unit of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force also arrested two other suspects, Chhedi Yadav and Arun Singh, recovering 530 grams of heroin, signalling a growing interstate trafficking network.

The arrests come amid heightened scrutiny of Nigerians living abroad and ongoing efforts by Indian authorities to curb drug-related crime.
