Nigerian travellers UK eVisa: From Feb 25, 2026, Nigerian nationals will receive electronic visas instead of physical stickers for easier travel

Nigerian travellers to the United Kingdom will begin receiving electronic visas (eVisas) instead of physical passport stickers from February 25, 2026, the British High Commission announced.

The Senior Communications Officer, Onyinye Madu, said applicants will access their visas electronically through a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account, marking a shift toward a fully digital visa process.

“From 25 February 2026, all Nigerian nationals applying for a UK Visit visa will receive an eVisa, rather than a vignette (sticker) in their passports,” the statement said.

Applicants will continue to meet existing requirements, including online application, attendance at a Visa Application Centre for biometric data, and eligibility criteria.

The only change is the visa format, with successful applicants receiving a secure digital record of their immigration status.

Nigerians who already hold valid physical visas do not need to take any action, as these remain valid until expiry or replacement is required.

The commission highlighted the benefits of the transition, noting faster passport return, online access to immigration status from any location, and enhanced security, as eVisas cannot be lost, stolen, or tampered with.

Gill Lever said the move will simplify travel for Nigerians, making the process more secure and reducing reliance on paper documents.

Applicants will be required to create a free UKVI account to access their eVisa once their application is approved.
