Nigerian Army rescue operation in Kogi repels bandits, neutralises one, recovers weapon, and frees kidnapped victim in Lokoja LGA

Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have successfully repelled armed bandits and rescued a kidnapped victim during a targeted operation in Oshokoshoko and Obajana, Lokoja Local Government Area.

The operation, confirmed in a statement by Lieutenant Hassan Abdulahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, was carried out in response to credible intelligence regarding bandits moving through the Oshokoshoko–Obajana corridor with abducted persons.

“The troops laid in wait and engaged the armed criminals, who opened fire but were met with superior firepower, forcing them to withdraw in disorder,” Abdulahi said. “One bandit was neutralised, others fled with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.”

The operation also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and the safe rescue of a kidnapped victim, who was described as weak and distressed and was immediately evacuated to a medical facility for attention.

Abdulahi emphasised that further pursuit operations are ongoing to track fleeing members of the criminal group.

“The Nigerian Army remains steadfast in sustaining pressure on criminal groups and ensuring that communities across Kogi State are safe and secure,” he said.

Residents were urged to cooperate with security agencies by providing actionable intelligence.

The 12 Brigade has been actively involved in ongoing efforts to combat banditry and kidnapping in the state.

Earlier this month, troops at Forward Operating Base, Oguma, successfully rescued two victims and recovered ransom money meant for their release.
