Nigerian Army kills six bandits in coordinated North-West operations, recovering arms and disrupting terrorist networks across three states

Troops of Sector 2 under Operation FANSAN YAMMA of the Nigerian Army have intensified coordinated offensives across Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi states, killing at least six suspected bandits and recovering arms and communication equipment in a series of decisive operations conducted this week.

The Nigerian Army said the renewed onslaught forms part of a broader strategy to protect vulnerable communities and dismantle entrenched criminal networks across the North-West.

In Sokoto State, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion VII engaged suspected terrorists in two separate encounters at Magonho Forest on March 25, neutralising three bandits.

The operation led to the recovery of three AK-47 rifles and motorcycles, reinforcing what military sources described as a targeted push into forest hideouts.

Zamfara State recorded multiple breakthroughs on the same day. Troops laid a successful ambush along the Gada Maya–Makakari road, killing two suspected terrorists and forcing others to flee.

Items recovered included an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a Baofeng radio, two mobile phones and a motorcycle.

Later, troops foiled a retaliatory attack on Kaida Village, where assailants had reportedly accused residents of collaborating with security forces.

One additional terrorist was neutralised and another rifle recovered, underscoring the relentless pace of operations in the area.

In a separate intelligence-led clearance mission in Dutsi Village, Moriki District of Zurmi Local Government Area, sustained military pressure forced fleeing fighters to abandon weapons and ammunition.

In neighbouring Kebbi State, troops acting on intelligence about the presence of the Lakurawa terrorist group in Giron Masa community, Shanga Local Government Area, encountered an ambush approximately 500 metres from the village.

Despite the surprise attack, the troops held their ground as reinforcements and combat support were swiftly deployed.

Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, said the operations reflect the military’s determination to dominate the battlespace and degrade terrorist capabilities.

“Our troops have remained resolute and undeterred in the face of provocation.

The ongoing operations are a clear indication of our commitment to neutralising terrorist elements and restoring lasting peace across the North-West,” Osoba said.

He added that intelligence-driven follow-up operations are ongoing to track fleeing fighters, particularly those linked to the Kebbi ambush.
