Nigerian Army, led by Maj. Gen. Oyinlola, vows intensified operations against criminals in Plateau State

The Nigerian Army has announced plans to intensify operations against criminals and bandits in Plateau State, particularly as the farming season approaches.

Major General Folunsho Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding the 3rd Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), made the declaration during a strategic meeting with leaders from Barkin Ladi Local Government Area on Thursday.

He stated that the army is prepared to strike criminal hideouts and implement robust security measures across the state.

“Our task forces in every sector are combat-ready to tackle any form of criminality,” Oyinlola said. “We will combine military action with community-focused initiatives to protect lives, properties, and livelihoods as farming activities commence.”

The GOC highlighted that OPEP would accelerate clearance of criminal elements, maintain heightened patrols in known hotspots, and enhance collaboration with other security agencies.

He urged community stakeholders to support the military by providing timely and credible intelligence to prevent attacks on miners and incursions of cattle into farmland.

“These are clear early warning signs that demand urgent, collective action. Security is a shared responsibility, and we rely on communities to help us act decisively against criminal elements,” Oyinlola stressed.

In addition to kinetic military operations, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has directed the distribution of fertilizers to farmers and herders to promote peaceful farming and reduce tensions.
