Nigerian Army takes delivery of 15 locally produced “Vanquisher” APCs, enhancing troop mobility, mission readiness, and defence self-reliance

The Nigerian Army has received 15 locally manufactured All-Terrain Combat Vehicles (APCs), codenamed “Vanquisher”, to strengthen operational efficiency and troop mobility in challenging environments.

The vehicles were produced by the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) in collaboration with Vanquish Industries Limited and the Command Engineering Depot.

At the handover ceremony, Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shu’aibu, described the delivery as a historic milestone demonstrating Nigeria’s growing defence manufacturing capability.

Represented by Chief of Policy and Plan, Maj.-Gen. Babatunde Alabi, Shu’aibu said the APCs would enhance troop survivability, manoeuvrability, and mission effectiveness across multiple theatres of operation.

“The handover is tangible proof of our expanding local capacity in producing critical military hardware,” Shu’aibu stated.

He added that the Army’s leadership focuses on professional excellence, operational readiness, strategic cooperation, and robust administration.

Maj.-Gen. Babatunde Alaya, Director-General of DICON, emphasised that the 15 APCs form part of 20 ballistic-protected platforms designed specifically for Nigeria’s operational environment.

“These vehicles are configured for troop transport, convoy escort, reconnaissance, and internal security operations,” he said.

Mr Zacharia Ndiriza, Managing Director of Vanquish Industries Limited, highlighted that the vehicles were built on principles of protection, agility, and adaptability to meet evolving operational needs.

He also praised the Federal Government and Armed Forces leadership for supporting indigenous defence manufacturing.

The event included a guided tour of DICON’s production facilities and the Nigerian Army 7th Vehicle Assembly Plant, showcasing the country’s ability to produce world-class defence solutions while generating employment for local engineers and skilled workers.
