Adams struck in the 49th minute at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo on Saturday to hand Venezia their first Serie A points of the season and end a difficult run of six consecutive defeats.

The victory also provided a positive start to Nicola’s tenure after he replaced Giovanni Stroppa as Venezia head coach.

Despite the match-winning contribution from Adams, Nicola played down the focus on individual performances while highlighting the striker’s potential.

“I don’t like talking about individuals. Adams puts his soul into it; he has very important qualities, and he helps the team. Akor has crazy margins for improvement,” Nicola said.

Adams responded by thanking his new coach and insisting that he was determined to continue developing his game.

“I thank the coach; I don’t set limits for myself, I have a lot to learn to grow. Here in Venice, I can improve; the coach has come to help Venezia and me,” the Nigerian said.

The striker also praised Nicola for providing clear instructions on intensity, defensive organisation and transitions.

Adams’ goal was particularly significant for Venezia, who had endured a difficult start to their Serie A campaign before finally recording their first points.

The Nigerian’s contribution, coupled with a strong performance from goalkeeper Filip Stanković, gave the club renewed encouragement as Nicola begins his attempt to stabilise the team.

For Adams, the goal could also provide an important confidence boost as he looks to establish himself more firmly at club level and continue his development with Venezia.
