Lewis Hall contract now runs to 2031. The boyhood Newcastle fan called it a proud moment after reports of Manchester United interest

On Friday 11 September 2026 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, Newcastle United confirmed a Lewis Hall contract extension that keeps the England international at St James’ Park until 2031.

Lewis Hall, 22, added two years to his previous deal. BBC Sport reported interest from Manchester United.

Newcastle did not address that claim in the announcement. Lewis Hall joined from Chelsea in 2023 and has made 106 appearances. He is a boyhood supporter with family ties to the club.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to play for this club and to represent the supporters,” Lewis Hall said. “I know how much it means to them. To be able to bring joy to their faces, it’s a big thing for me. I obviously have a family connection with the club, which is incredibly important to us all. One of the main reasons I play is to make my family proud, and I know how much it means to them to watch me playing for Newcastle United.”

He also backed the start of the season under new head coach Matthias Jaissle. “It’s a really good place to be. It’s really pleasing with how we’ve started the season, especially with the new gaffer and coaching staff coming in, and I think we can go on to achieve really big things.”

Matthias Jaissle called him central to the project. “He’s a very important player for us and for what we are building here. His mentality is exactly what you want in a young player. He wants to learn every day and he wants to be better in every match. Lewis covers ground in a way that few players can. He defends with maturity and intelligence, and his technical level means he can support the team higher up the pitch. What excites me most is that I believe the best is still to come from Lewis.”

The deal locks in a homegrown full-back through the end of the decade. Whether it ends outside interest is another matter. For now Newcastle have kept a player who wants to stay and a coach who wants him in the side.
