NCAA airline refund Nigeria figures show that domestic carriers refunded a total of ₦1,038,505,680.80 to 5,285 passengers between April and June 2025. The compensation addressed widespread delays and cancellations across various routes.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority released the data via its official X account, highlighting its commitment to passenger rights under Part 19 of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations 2015.

These regulations require airlines to offer compensation based on the cause and category of flight disruption. The latest refunds reflect efforts by major airlines—including Air Peace and Arik Air—to comply with oversight and restore confidence in the aviation sector.

“This shows improved enforcement and airline accountability,” said an NCAA representative. “Passengers are now aware that they deserve compensation, and airlines must respond accordingly.”

The refunds follow a broader trend of increased transparency. A 2023 report from the NCAA showed that over 55% of 18,288 domestic flights during the first quarter were delayed or cancelled, spotlighting the scale of disruption.

Airlines have cited causes such as bird strikes, aircraft maintenance, and infrastructural issues—particularly the temporary runway closure at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu—as reasons behind operational delays.

Still, the NCAA continues to monitor the sector closely, warning carriers that failure to honour passenger rights will attract penalties.
