Nasarawa voter registration rates remain low, prompting Governor Sule to call for urgent grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections

Nasarawa voter registration numbers have alarmed state authorities, with Governor Abdullahi Sule expressing concern over the low turnout in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking during the APC’s grassroots sensitisation campaign in Lafia on Wednesday—through his Deputy, Emmanuel Akabe—Governor Sule lamented the state’s low ranking in national registration statistics.

“If you look at the charts that were published, Nasarawa State is still down below among states in the ongoing INEC CVR process,” he stated.

The event also marked the second anniversary of APC Chairman Aliyu Bello and Secretary Yairus Dagusa, where Sule commended their leadership and called on APC stakeholders to take the CVR mobilisation effort seriously.

Governor Sule encouraged APC leaders across Nasarawa’s 13 Local Government Areas to return to their constituencies and urge residents to register in order to vote in the 2027 general elections.

The Nasarawa voter registration campaign is part of a broader party initiative to prepare early for upcoming polls.

“This is an opportunity for us to go back to our constituencies, our wards, our polling units and encourage our people to register so they can vote,” Sule added.

Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, echoed the governor’s concerns, noting that population growth had not translated into increased voter registration.

“Our population has skyrocketed, but our registered voters remain very low,” he said, promising legislative support to improve voter participation.

APC Chairman Aliyu Bello used the event to endorse Governor Sule’s right to select his successor in the 2027 governorship race, a decision he said had been unanimously adopted by party executives.

“We are ready to accept any governorship aspirant chosen by His Excellency,” Bello declared.

INEC’s 2025 CVR began with online pre-registration from August 18, followed by the in-person phase from August 25 to 30.

With the window now closed, attention shifts to mobilizing already registered voters to collect their PVCs and prepare for electoral participation.

The Nasarawa voter registration turnout is critical for the state’s political influence in 2027.

Low voter numbers could weaken the state’s bargaining power in federal elections and reduce representation in decision-making processes.
