The Nigerian Air Force has reactivated a Super Puma helicopter, NAF 565, to enhance air operations across several security theatres.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, recommissioned the aircraft at the 205 Rotary Wing in Ikeja, Lagos State.

The event formed part of Aneke’s maiden operational visit to Lagos since assuming office.

A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the move reflects ongoing efforts to improve operational readiness and national security.

Aneke described the reactivation as a deliberate step to restore critical air assets and strengthen mission capability.

“This is not just the return of an aircraft, but a clear demonstration of our commitment to a mission-ready force,” he said.

The Chief of Air Staff noted that restoring legacy platforms remains central to the NAF’s operational strategy.

He said the Super Puma has played key roles in troop transport, casualty evacuation, search and rescue, and logistics support.

According to him, the aircraft has supported operations such as Operation Hadin Kai and several joint missions.

He added that its return would strengthen maritime security in Lagos and support counterinsurgency and anti-banditry operations nationwide.

Aneke attributed improvements in airpower capacity to Federal Government support under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said ongoing acquisitions and rehabilitation of existing platforms were enhancing operational effectiveness.

The CAS also acknowledged funding support from the National Assembly, describing inter-agency collaboration as vital to sustaining military operations.

He commended retired Air Commodore TA Badru, the Air Officer Commanding Mobility Command, and technicians of the 205 Rotary Wing for completing the reactivation.

Aneke urged personnel to maintain strict safety and maintenance standards to ensure aircraft serviceability.

Addressing officers and airmen at Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, he said the NAF was improving logistics coordination to boost operational efficiency.

He added that plans were underway to induct additional combat platforms to enhance precision strike capability and regional deterrence.

On welfare, Aneke said the NAF would accelerate housing projects and improve allowances, medical support, and working conditions.
