Michael Carrick says he needs no assurances over his Manchester United future amid sack speculation following the club’s poor Premier League results

Carrick made the remarks during a press conference ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League trip to Chelsea on Saturday, according to Sky Sports News.

The manager’s future has come under increasing scrutiny after United suffered a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday, extending the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League season.

Reports also emerged that Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox held a meeting at the club’s Carrington training ground during the week to discuss the team’s situation and possible next steps.

However, Carrick dismissed the need for guarantees from the club’s leadership, maintaining that he understands the responsibilities attached to managing Manchester United.

“I don’t need assurances from anyone,” he said.

“I totally get the position, I get the job, the responsibility, I get what comes with that. I really don’t need any assurances from anyone in that regard.”

The former Manchester United midfielder added that his attention remained firmly on preparing his players for the difficult encounter against Chelsea rather than reacting to media speculation about his future.

Carrick also explained that he pays little attention to external criticism, although he remains concerned about the opinions and experiences of the club’s supporters.

“I don’t see it. I only see the things I need to see,” he said.

“I don’t look for it. It doesn’t help. I’ve said it before, I care about what the supporters think. I care about how it feels in the stadium and them travelling to games – I care about what we give them and what they see.”

He added that he was not concerned about other opinions, insisting that he understood the areas where his team needed to improve.

“I genuinely don’t take any notice of anything else. I know this job and I know what we need to be better. I don’t need anyone else to tell me,” Carrick stated.

Asked whether he was surprised to remain in charge amid questions about his position, the manager said he was simply focused on fulfilling his responsibilities.

“No. I’m here to do my job. I’m here to do the best for the team. I’m desperate to make things better and improve things. I’m not surprised, no,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports News reported that Carrick would remain in charge for Manchester United’s trip to Chelsea on Saturday.
