Benjamin Sesko scores twice, but Manchester United settle for a 2-2 draw at struggling Burnley, leaving the Red Devils outside the Premier League top four

Manchester United drew 2-2 at Burnley on Wednesday as Benjamin Sesko scored twice, but Ayden Heaven’s own goal and Jaidon Anthony’s strike ensured the hosts earned a point.

The result offered no immediate boost following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim on Monday, after a series of disappointing results and clashes with director of football Jason Wilcox.

Caretaker manager Darren Fletcher reverted United to a back four, abandoning the 3-4-3 system that had contributed to Amorim’s struggles.

Captain Bruno Fernandes returned from injury, while Fletcher included his son Jack among the substitutes.

Burnley, winless since late October, took the lead through a deflected cross from Bashir Humphreys that looped off Heaven into the net.

United had Lisandro Martinez’s equaliser controversially ruled out for a foul on Kyle Walker.

Sesko struck twice within 10 minutes, converting a clever through ball from Fernandes before expertly diverting Patrick Dorgu’s cross to make it 2-1.

Fernandes was then withdrawn to protect him after returning from a hamstring injury.

Burnley levelled with 30 minutes remaining when Anthony turned sharply and fired a brilliant shot into the top corner.

United came close to regaining the lead when teenager Shea Lacey hit the crossbar with a long-range effort.
