The Premier League club are now working to finalise an agreement for the Belgium international, with all parties understood to be keen on completing the deal quickly.

Tielemans, 29, is believed to favour a move to Old Trafford after captaining Belgium at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

United’s pursuit of Tielemans gathered momentum after they decided not to proceed with the Ederson transfer under its original terms.

Although a deal for the Atalanta midfielder had been agreed in principle, medical concerns prompted the club to pause negotiations, with the possibility of revisiting the move later in the transfer window not completely ruled out.

The Man Utd Tielemans transfer would represent a notable shift in the club’s recent recruitment strategy.

At 29, Tielemans brings extensive Premier League experience, having previously starred for Leicester City before joining Aston Villa on a free transfer in 2023.

His leadership qualities and technical ability are viewed as valuable assets for a United midfield undergoing significant change.

Manager Michael Carrick is rebuilding his midfield following Casemiro’s departure, while the club has already agreed a deal to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea.

Tielemans is now expected to provide experience alongside the younger additions as United prepare for the new campaign.

The Belgian midfielder enjoyed another productive season with Aston Villa and remains under contract, although his reported £35 million release clause has made him an attractive option for United.

Villa, meanwhile, are expected to strengthen their own midfield after Amadou Onana suffered a serious knee injury during the World Cup.
