In a recent appearance on the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast, the fast-rising Afrobeats star explained that his creative method doesn’t involve traditional writing but instead flows from how he feels in the moment.

“I don’t write music. When I try to write, I overthink. And I always end up not liking it,” Lojay confessed. “Sometimes, I’ll bring out my notes to fill in the blanks, which is easier. But to sit down and write lyrics, it will come out very rigid.”

The singer stressed that genuine artistry resonates more deeply with listeners and ensures that songs remain timeless.

He cited Rema’s popular track “Soundgasm” as an example of how subtle delivery choices can elevate a song’s emotional intensity.

Reflecting on the moment Rema begins to whisper in the third verse, Lojay praised the artistic intuition behind it.

“It does feel like somebody should be whispering in my ear right now,” he said, acknowledging the song’s immersive feel.

Encouraging fellow artists to focus more on authentic expression than on chasing trends, Lojay advised that music should come from within.

“Forget what’s happening outside. It’s like, what are you trying to capture?” he added.
