Barcelona president Laporta steps down temporarily ahead of March 15 elections; Rafa Yuste committee takes over operations

Joan Laporta has resigned as Barcelona president, taking a temporary step in line with the club’s statutes to prepare for the upcoming elections.

Laporta is seeking another term, with the final decision resting in the hands of club members on March 15. He will compete against Víctor Font and three other candidates.

By resigning, Laporta ensures adherence to Barcelona’s procedures and opens the path for his re-election bid.

In his absence, a temporary committee will oversee the club’s daily operations. The committee will be led by Rafa Yuste, Laporta’s close friend and the club’s sporting vice-president since 2021.
