Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit arrests two suspected Omotaku gang members targeting motorists along Oshodi–Apapa Expressway

Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit have arrested two suspected members of the street gang Omotaku along the Oshodi–Agunlejika–Apapa Expressway.

The suspects were apprehended after allegedly extorting a motorist whose vehicle had broken down on the busy highway.

Adetayo Akerele, chairman of the agency, confirmed the arrests through a statement by Taskforce spokesperson Raheem Gbadeyan.

The operation followed a tip-off from a civic group, ICU, To Soul a Soul. Officers found the suspects pretending to be revenue collectors and passersby.

Investigations revealed they had been on the Taskforce’s watchlist and had evaded arrest multiple times.

The suspects reportedly targeted vehicles carrying goods from Apapa Port, posing as government agents and demanding money under the guise of protection from rival gangs.

One suspect admitted they blocked drivers and created fear to extort payments.

Akerele assured residents that the suspects would be prosecuted in court and warned criminal groups masquerading as revenue officers to stay away from Lagos.

The public was urged to report suspicious activities through official Taskforce channels or the nearest police station.
